Agreed. People who find this kind of thing entertaining need to be stuck in a pen with some hungry tigers and then tied to a chair with a few steaks around their necks. Just one more thing that reminds me why I like animals more than people... *sigh*

I don't know why, but something about this strikes me as urban lengend. Mabye I am just unwilling to believe that people would really be that depraved.

I have seen websites in which women in high heels step on lobsters and bugs.

Didn't realize it had evolved into higher forms of animals.

Lemme get this straight - you just scoped some pictures of a kitten getting crushed to death and you think some people quoting the bible is 'weird' by comparison?

I would like to point out that the disgust and revulsion felt while observing this picture is very relevant to the meat that we, as a society are eating. It would be a hard sell, I'm afraid, to make the case that a cow is less evolved and advanced than a cat. This being the case, people are still eating beef and other meats in what I think is a giant moral blind spot for otherwise normal, decent people. We've already decided that it isn't ok to treat persons horribly because they are in womens' bodies or because they are persons of color. On this basis, I implore everyone to move on to the next moral frontier: speciesism, under which persons are horribly abused and murdered because they are in animal bodies.

This is the result of Communist oppresion on a society. When people live in serfdom they loose respect for human life. They are unable to see the value of indivduals. It's funny... the altruistic preaching nations eliminate personal rights in favor of GROUP needs. And as a result the indivduals learn to hate each other for it. They feel that the group is enslaving them. And in opposition the indivduals grow in hatered...and eventually turn depraved. It's extremely sad...but these behaviours are showing up all over.

And of course, laws are then enacted to eliminate these behaviours. This provides even greater fuel to the fire. And the downward spiral starts anew. The more personal liberty removed from the society, the faster it begins to crumble. And the more sick and horrible the whole thing becomes.

That's my theory.

Andy, I was making those same comparisons in my head as well. Here's the thing:
I have no moral objection to eating meat, I just have an objection to the way the animals are tortured. I think that all life should be respected, and that includes plant life. I used to be vegetarian, and I've been considering it lately (But I freakin' LOVE steak, sorry) just for the health benefits. I felt much better physically when I was vegetarian. But I digress.

The point of this comment is this:
People find this sick (including myself, my god I think this is terrible) while we eat meat that comes from factory farms, where the animals are treated almost as bad. But at least there's a POINT in the farms. This is pointlless.

The point still stands. As I said, I'm not vegetarian anymore, so I take my own criticisms here, but it is food for thought.

Wow, no way. Every day, people beat animals, set them on fire, starve them (more like neglect), drown them..even attack them with machetes. In the US. Average penalty? Probably a $200 fine and something that says, "Hey, this guy can't have pets anymore."

I'm not saying that China is great. All the abuse that goes on there is unbelievable, plus the whole dog-eating thing that has been much publicized. Not only that, Germany plans on shipping St. Bernards to China for food because of their fast growth and ability to reproduce.

If we expect other countries to uphold animal rights, then maybe (JUST MAYBE) we should set an example. Sort of hypocritical, I would think, especially since we have circuses which beat wild animals for our enjoyment. Oh, and we condone animal testing?

Obviously, there's always backlash as to my..animal advocacy, but I would not have a problem with eating meat or wearing UGGS if these beings were killed properly and treated humanely. No moral person would beat a seal to death or throw a chicken in scalding water, which is actually what happens on a regular basis.

I hope I won't be deemed weird because of the quotation, also, because it's true.

I don't think it's entirely appropriate to label an entire country in that manner. It's the actions of a few people, and not indicative of the whole. Indeed there was public outcry from Chinese organizations and individuals against this as there would naturally be in the US under similar circumstances. Though, I do agree, that from a Western perspective China may need better animal cruelty laws.

I've been trying to keep my Newsvine posts clean, but @!$%# me. That's just @!$%#ing shocking. The people making - and 'getting off' on - this utterly vile practice deserve much worse than what they're dishing out.

@Paytorr, Well I for one definitely do not think you are weird for that quote. It's a very powerful and important quote in my opinion. Ones actions and attitudes torwards animals speak volumes for their personallity. I personally could never associate myself with anyone who mistreats animals, as someone that could be so cruel as to harm a defenseless creature has major pyschological and sociological issues. I am typically a non-violent person, but after I saw even one of those images, I hope terrible things happen to any and all who partake in those videos and acts.

I don't even want to click that link going on what people have said so far :( At least not while I'm in the office that's for sure.
