Opera 9 web browser launches with BitTorrent support

-- The latest version of the Opera web browser promises to be a boon for anyone wanting to download large files from the internet. This is because of its support for a technology called BitTorrent that is used to share files.

Rather than downloading a file from one computer, BitTorrent splits the download between several computers across the internet saving time and resources.

BitTorrent has been around for some time but recently hit the headlines when the test version of Windows Vista was made available on a BitTorrent website.

Microsoft demanded that the website stop this, claiming that it was "offering unlicensed copies of, or is engaged in other unauthorised activities relating to, copyrighted works published by Microsoft". --

I guess you can't go wrong with Opera. I love it and have been using the test builds for like forever! :) Anyways I love the jump this version has from the other ones. It's like an entirely different browser.

I love Opera and I always have a copy installed on my computer but I just cannot bring myself to use it over Firefox. I can't really explain why. I will say that Opera is probably the only browser that truly innovates. Firefox has streamlined and marketed many of the great features of Opera. I wish they would just merge.

I have to agree. I have tried times and times again to use Firefox and I can't. I just feel more comfortable with Opera and it's built in features.

Though I will say this. Firefox is a great browser in it's own as well. The great thing is that it is fully customizeable but in my opinion it is lagging behind Opera in some areas.

I've used the opera9 beta version for several weeks now. It's magnificent. They've polished several things up, and they've added a few excellent functions. One is "widgets" - where people can create and download free little programs which display on an alternate grayed out full screen area.

Opera is much faster than firefox... Firefox was never built from the ground up... so it's still loaded with reams upon reams of old cumbersome netscape code. The best software is that which is written in the fewest lines of code.

I have to correct myself. The widgets in the official release version of opera 9 act differently than the widgets in the beta version. The widgets will rather come up in the left hand panels, in a similar manner to how bookmarks, and the history do.

Hmmm... another nice thing about opera 9 is easy banner ad blocking.
