From the page:

-- The research confirms suspicions that men change their behaviour dramatically in the presence of women and struggle to resist showing off in front of them. In other words, they don't want to appear a wimp.
The study at Stirling University's psychology department examined the pain thresholds of 64 male and female students while increasing levels of pressure were applied to their chests. --

Interesting:

it has highlighted a serious problem for hospital staff as male patients may under- report their levels of pain if a female doctor or nurse is examining them.

This article is very factual. I have never been hurt by a woman in a short dress and high heels.

When the men were tested by a male researcher dressed in jeans and a T-shirt they were able to withstand nearly a third more pain than their female counterparts.

This is the part that stuck out for me. I always heard, from women, that women's pain tolerance was greater, allegedly due to the fact that they may give birth to a child. I never believed it.

I can believe it. I've been kicked in the teeth a fair few times at my martial arts class... if there weren't members of the fairer sex around, I'd probably have cried like a little girl. ;-)

This seems purely genetic, males unconsciously are always attempting to attract females, and the show of pain is a genetic predisposition for weakness, so it makes sense why us stubborn ass men would learn to hide pain around them. That and the fact we have testosterone.
