The root cause of terrorism is politics. People who feel offended, abused, or injured by the policies of the major powers but have no armies with which to defend themselves often resort to terror. It's the only weapon available to the weak.

I agree with parts of this article. For example, the idea that we should stop all these actions that are causing political blowback. However, I believe one of the worst things that we can do is 'revert' and only focus on trade when it comes to international policy. What this does is take the focus of lawmaking and places it on money.
We already have enough problems with corporations and other money-making machines using their influence to change policy for themselves. Why would we want to place even more importance on this? There should be a larger focus on the problems of our government as a whole. Until we change the way that our bastardized political system works, the same problems will keep coming up - time and time again.

What this argument fails to recognize is that terror also produces a blowback. Why is the blowback from our policies tolerated, but any blowback anger from attacks denigrated? Terror also assures that the policies that provoked will continue unabated and even worsen. Gandhi achieved far more than Arafat ever did.

When so far have we dealt with an unwarranted terrorist attack? I don't think there have been any 'preemptive' terror strikes here.

Oh, and Gandhi let his wife die with no medical treatment, but saved himself when a similar sickness ailed him. And he aided Nazis. And was racist. And he betrayed the Untouchables. But, whatever.

And he still accomplished more than Arafat without resorting to terror. Change subjects much?

Sorry, thought I had answered it with my first sentence. ^_^ I'm not downplaying the significance of terror attacks, and I'm not trying to defend them. I just think the best way of making them stop is not to get angry. It's to not cause them in the first place.

And, yeah - I'm a little manic. Sorry.
