Keith Richards is used to an occasional run-in with the police, most notably drug charges during the 60s and 70s, but his law-breaking days appeared to be behind him. But the legendary rock band's guitarist is now being investigated by Glasgow city council after it received reports that he had broken Scotland's smoking ban.

There they go again... those evil rockers corrupting our senior citizens with their heinous flouting of the laws of civil society. Back in the day, our seniors listened to decent wholesome folks like Lawrence Welk, but now idiots like this seem to be everywhere as if they were just falling out of the trees!

Ironically (or not), "Keef" is a senior citizen. *grin*

    1) What the heck is Keef? Is that a nickname for Keith? If so, is that as retarded as it seems to me?
    2) They ban smoking by rock performers on stage? Due to second hand smoking concerns?
    3) And they ban actors from smoking as part of their performance? What is wrong with the Brits?

    1) Phonetic transliteration of his name as spoken "in the streets" by some Brits.

    2) Apparently so.

    3) I think they learned everything they know about public health hysteria from us Yanks.

The Irish got their public smoking ban in before us. How weird is that? The Irish banning smoking in pubs!

I'm looking forward to this happening in England too, although I'd prefer it to be a voluntary thing rather than law.

This is my favorite part of the article you linked to David:

The ban will not apply in hotel rooms, prisons, nursing homes and psychiatric hospitals.

Now if they could only find the magic ingredient which occurs in the air of hotels, prisons, nursing homes and psych hospitals which keeps their employees from suffering the effects of second-hand smoke, the pubs would be able to allow patrons to smoke again.

And of course there's the wonderful logic which says that prisoners are free to smoke, but free men aren't.
