Another site where you can get paid for your writing is Newsvine.com, which allows users to make a personal homepage on which they can write commentary, articles, and can link to other news articles that they find interesting. Users receive 90% of the ad revenue from their pages. That sounds like a lot, but unless you create a very popular page, promote it, and put in the time to update it, you might not make much money. But if you like keeping up with the news, it may be worthwhile to check out this site. You may be able to make some money from your blog and have fun in the process.

Oh, I don't know. I tried that site and kept getting heckled in my threads by Europeans.

I think that is part of the "fun" mentioned in the article. :)

My Grandparents and Parents are of European decent. I'm not

So your grandparents and parents were decent and you are indecent?
Or perhaps you meant "descent", and don't actually know the meaning of the word, because having European parents means that you are of European descent....

@Daniel
Let me know if you're starting an Irma fan club. No hazing, okay? Maybe for the late-joiners. I have European genes, but I forgot in which pocket I put 'em.

Daniel and Nycam, there is no Irma fan club yet, but there is a secret Cult of Morgaine ... *grin*

I think it's a great way to make some extra cash! I've only been a member since January and I've already made $0.01!! I might be able to cash out the minimum $10 before I die!

The $0.01 was only for June when they ran some trial adverts. I'm hoping that when the result for July comes we are all in for a windfall. Maybe you will get $0.02!

Well I don't want to get too excited but I'm waiting for the August results to come in. I clicked on all the ads I could on my page in August and I might be able to hit the $0.02! At that rate of increase in a few years I'll be raking in the dough.

It's interesting to me that this article "sort of" mentions Newsvine in the first paragraph but then gives Xomba a written hand-job for the entire rest of the article. (Including 2 links which recommend that you "Sign up now!"

I don't have an issue with pimping Xomba -- I just think it's weird that they mention Newsvine only in passing. They didn't even have anything bad to say really, it's just like they didn't have much to say other than:

    There's this site called Newsvine.

    Moving along.

    XOMBA!

    An oddly focused article, imo.

You're right, Brian. I suspect "Associated Content" isn't a news site, it's a collection of press releases and junk filler content. There's a big market in that stuff these days.

    Just looked at XOMBA.

If the quality of submissions to date is anything to go by it is doomed.

It looks rushed and tacky, none of the polish of Newsvine.

Did you also notice that those links to Xomba contain a referral id ? Guess this guy wants to make money in more ways than one ...

You notice how a lot of the posters left after discovering their months work of writing for Newsvine was only worth a dollar?

Just as well since most of those posts were regurgitated Alternet.net articles.

Honestly if someone is only here to make money I'd rather see them leave. People should be here because they love to read or write news (or both). I come here every day because I like reading the news and commenting on it and it has a great UI (hopefully that is the right term for a website and I don't just look like and idiot.

Well -- being anything "only" to make money is generally a bad idea, imo -- but I definitely don't seem the harm in "wanting" to make money. I think it's "expecting" to make money that might do some people in.

    :)

If we all were here really to make money anyways, we'd all be a bunch of broke bastards. LOL. We're all here b/c we love the news and talking and reading about it, voicing our opinions and networking with others. If you really wanted to blog for money, go to blogger. The 'Vine gives us the fringe benefit of making some cash... so that's great, but we're not here for the money.
