OldFogey needs a seal

OldFogey for president :-)

Since we all pretty much support 'our' OldFogey, and he makes use of Newsvine for his campaign, I thought I'd make him a seal in cool Newsvine green. Helped by the official seal generator, hosted at ImageShack, he could e.g. use that as the logo for the Wiki James suggested he should start.

Of course, someone could create him something more nifty, but this is as good a start as any, don't you agree?

Try the link to imageshack, rightclick and pick 'save image as' ... or a similar option.

It's nice, I don't know about the font-face used though.

It was something I ran into, not a carefully designed logo or seal. Feel free to design something better though :-)

Irma, don't say that. Only yours will do. It is the seal I have ever had or will have. Thanks.

Jerry, you're too kind. Consider it a beta version :-)

Irma, it's in his wiki now. If you have an update, just let me know and I'll replace it or you can do it yourself if you would prefer to. Anyway, I reduced the image size to 175px and I think the background color isn't matching the overall page color. I tried to make it transparent, but couldn't quite figure it out and I'm short on time atm. Also, I'm an absolute newbie to Wikipedia and I'm running into a bunch of licensing questions etc. about the image when I upload it. I mentioned you as an author at least. I'll try to get a better understanding of this aspect of wiki authoring as I go along.

Thanks for your help!

Link to the Jerry Firman Wikipedia page.

As far as I'm concerned, you can put that image under a 'copyleft' license. I did create it with the 'official seal creator', where Ryland Sanders states:

(Note: do not link directly to the image generated on this site - it won't work. You are free to download the image, copy it, put it on your own website, or distribute it however you like. If you don't have a website to store it on, there are plenty of free image hosting sites available.)

I interpreted the " however you like " as " without the 'http://www.says-it.com/seal/ " included in the image. That might have been a stretch, not sure really.

If you don't put valid copyright information for the picture of Jerry on his porch, it will be deleted soon. With the approval of oldfogey, of course, you would have to edit the licensing information and change all the text to a Creative Commons license.

Alec,

He's planning to get a head shot to me for upload soon and we'll try to get the licensing right for that one. The majority of the photos I found showed him in the distance so I tried to use the best photo I could find of him up close.

Thanks for your guidance on this.

Hey, hey, hey! Boy does that whole Wiki seal thing look good. I just got there. I have spent the last three or four hours getting my broadband cell phone hookup and it seems to be working fine. Had a hard time getting here, though. Will tell the full story one of these days. Thank everybody working for me today. Will try to justify your concern and good will. Thank you all for being here.

I'm all for supporting someone from the Vine. Really, I think the principle of the whole thing is great. But, is there anywhere that Fogey has outlined his positions? And does everyone supporting him understand those positions or are they just chiming in on all the oldfogey threads because he's one of the family?

I personally don't know his positions or of his competition and until all the stories started popping up, really hadn't paid enough attention to his comments. And since I'm not one of his potentional constituents, I haven't bothered looking them up. Maybe I oughta now.

Ok, I just went and read his Meet the Candidates speech. Sweet I guess, and refreshing that a "representative" actually wants to represent instead of dictate. But it seems to me to be the political equivalent of two guys standing around saying "uh, I dunno, what do YOU want to do?"

I wish him luck, but I'm skeptical to say the least. Call me cynical but I just don't think that this is how politics works any more, and just standing on the tracks in front of the train isn't very useful.

You are absolutely right in your assessment of my campaign so far. I have had to concentrate on areas, articles, on line friends, emails, short trips to close places, ragged looking signs and news releases instead of advertising. All of this because the way politics is done today is with money and not with people. I am striving to get people involved again.

My broadest positions concern the conduct of government and not yet the issues that government affects. Roads, retirements, medical care, the justice system, tort and court reform, taxes both cut and increased, these are all issues to be discussed. I have my views on many. Many, I, nor my competition, has a clue as to solving. Where I differ is, I want these issues handled by the involved people and not the corporate entities that have stock in the issues remaining controversial or unsolved.

Specific issues I will explain to anyone but I have purposely stayed away because I don't need to get embroiled in debates that go nowhere or that should be handled on the floor of the House or elsewhere. In all cases I will strive to make the needs of my constituents come before my own ideas.

Again, my main issue is the conduct of government. There is no use talking to someone about monetary policy when that someone is trying to take away our Constitutional rights, or is hiding behind some establishment ritual that has not been challenged.

Yes, sometimes I do feel I am standing in front of a speeding train.

The conduct of our government is or should be everybody's main concern today. Keep it up, Old Fogey!

I look forward to how you think government would be reformed, and if its not an article already, I'd love to see it laid out as such.

Let us know when your specific stances are laid out in this regard. Its something I believe strongly in as well, and would gladly support any candidate from ANY party who decides to take on that dragon.

I came across this while doing some random surfing and saving.

How'd the campaign end up going?

Oh, it went well. I lost my Republican Primary bid for Congress so I wound up supporting Zack Space for my Congressman. He won! You can see some of the things Newsviners did for me if you look up Jerry Firman at Wikipedia. You can also see Irma's seal proudly displayed on my Fulton Free Enterpriser page.
