Newsvine is the smallest of the three that The New York Times is working with. It attracted about 560,000 unique visitors last month, a 19 percent increase over the previous month, according to its internal numbers.
The company, which expects to turn a profit next year, has raised about $1 million in venture financing.

Sweet Fennel! It can definitely help attract attention to newsvine if every free NY Times story comes with a nice newsvine link.

This is great news. It doesn't look like they've added the share function to the Times Reader but it's still awesome that Newsvine has hit the mainstream.
I have always been hesitant about seeding NYT articles because they require a free registration - however, given this new development I think we can assume that it's okay.

I think it's always been a policy (not sure about official/unofficial) that seeding material that requires a free registration is okay, but premium or pay registrations are not. If you feel bad you can always include a link to bugmenot with all seeds involving a free registration ;-)

A great part about this new arrangement is that links seeded to Newsvine via the new Seed button on NYT bypasses the free registration wall.

It's great for Newsvine -- and also for the Times. I think it's good that they start embracing the openness of the web.

Too bad it's buried in the dropdown! I guess the "Grey Lady" wanted to tiptoe into citizen journalism.

All the news that's fit to print just wasn't enough; they needed some sweet fennel. Kudos to all the viners who make it the viniest!
