The grey headed albatross could become extinct in Australia if funding delays continue for pest eradication on the World Heritage listed Macquarie Island, conservationists warned on Thursday.
The delays also would be devastating for the sub-Antarctic island's penguins, petrels and other seabirds, said WWF scientific advisory committee member Dr Andrew Burbidge.

A team is leaving Hobart on Thursday on supply ship the Aurora Australis to report on damage being caused by exploding numbers of rabbits and rats and to start trial aerial runs for a baiting program.
Damn I hate those Rabbits, and Maquarie Island is Cold and you can really only go there for a few weeks a year.
Exotics: In the past a range of animals (including horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, cattle, sheep, dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, mice and wekas) have been introduced to the island, but only 4 introduced mammalian species have remained in recent times. They are: feral cats (now believed to have been eliminated), rabbits, black rats and house mice. These animals have had notable impacts on the indigenous flora and fauna.
