The Legislature has approved a bill giving the Division of Immigration more teeth in its campaign against sham marriages.

House Bill 15-224, authored by Vice Speaker Justo S. Quitugua, passed the Senate in a 7-2 vote. It will become law once signed by the governor.

If enacted, the bill would strengthen an existing law created to deter fraudulent marriages. A person who enters into marriage for immigration purposes would no longer be guilty of just immigration fraud, but of marriage fraud. Penalties are up to five years in prison, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

Staff Sergeant Scott L. Huss

I married a Russian woman 4 years ago and she has implicated me on "domestic violence" charges on 4 or 5 occasions. There has been NO domestic violence in the home EVER and I am now sure that it was just "immigration/marriage fraud". I loved here and she played me for the fool, following the now "ever popular" checklist that is readily available for them to use to destroy someone's life. I may have been "DUPED" like a lot of American military men but the USCIS (former INC) is really not doing anything about it. Three years ago the USCIS was going to deport her because of the significant pressure I put on them through and with Congressional help. I STOPPED them from deporting her because I let my heart get in the way of my mind. I am going to work for the rest of my life to fix this problem and I need help. I need help and hope that the show can do something to help thousands of people.

Mmm ... it is kind of weird this Scott Huss person (if it is really him of course) signed up to Newsvine to post a comment on an article about sham marriages (but not in the United States). Why would he? And what did he mean to communicate with his comment?

And yes, apparently he got arrested.

"The State Attorney's Office released some of the evidence in the case. In the 12-hundred pages of documents, WINK News found a 12 page letter - it is the note Scott Huss wrote to his mother, which appears to be a suicide note. In it he writes "It did not have to end this way."

{Scott] Huss went on to say that "everyone should read this in its entirety to begin to understand the magnitude and truth. It is lengthy, but it will be rewarding because a MOVIE will be made in honor of Scott L. Huss." Huss also writes "Nobody would listen to the truth" and called Yana a "liar and manipulator." Friends also told detectives Yana found child pornography and violent websites on Scott Huss's computer.

WINK News is also learning that Yana may have documented her own abuse. A month before she was murdered Yana was in a car accident she told an emergency room nurse she needed her bag hidden from her husband. That bag allegedly contained a recorder, note pad, and digital camera - which documented the abuse.

Friday, the day the documents were released is also the day Yana should have graduating from nursing school at Manatee Community College. Instead, her mother attended the ceremony and the school held a moment of silence for Yana Huss."
