Competition is stiff. Besides Newsvine I particularly like Bloglines, Firefox, Netvibes, OpenID, and StumbleUpon. I'll probably vote for Newsvine, OpenID or StumbleUpon. Wish we could vote for a top 3 in each category.
What I dislike about these contests ... I always discover something I haven't tried yet. *grin*

Curious about the category - browsers? Voted anyway but I would have been happier if we had come in under community instead.
Good seed.

They nominate the top browsers? Hmmm...
Also they nominate several more or less identical sites, like both Netvibes and My Yahoo! While inherently more innovative than a browser, the mere fact that the idea isn't unique kind of kills off any incentive to vote for it.
I thought this SpringWidget looked kind of interesting, but the website is a bit inaccessible (without a login anyway) and as far as I can tell operating it requires running an .exe file = looser. Also there are alternatives. And if you were playing around with SuperKaramba a couple of years ago...
OpenID looks interesting. Anyone tried it? Could it be considered for some use here, ie evaluating users for the Viners in Real Life group?
I'd point at Yahoo Pipes as a winner candidate! Very innovative and useful. But still in beta. And yeah... Newsvine of course!

OpenID ... evaluating users for the Viners in Real Life group?
Naah. It's just a logging in thing.

I love OpenID ... and iNames.
OpenID allows delegation of authentication. While I've got accounts at MyOpenID, as Áine mentioned above, I prefer to use claimID.
OpenID has been around for a while, think I created a first account back in 2003. It's becoming more and more common. Pibb, which "combines the best features of instant messenger, chat, email, and bulletin boards" for example also uses OpenID, and there are several WordPress plugins that facilitate logging in with an OpenID account.

I voted for Newsvine, of course, although like said above, I had to actually choose between some others that I do like. I went with loyalty;).
I don't understand why it's mixed in with browsers, however. That doesn't really make a lot of sense to me.

Yeah -- that was my thought to, seems kinda broad.
But, I went with Newsvine.

Well ... the category is browsing, not browsers. I agree though it is a rather mixed bag.

And Digg was in a completely different category. Each list seemed almost randomized to me.

I know where I'd have put it. Tact and diplomacy prevents me from saying where.

The reason NV is in that category is probably because they don't fully understand what NV is. Perhaps we should enlighten them?

Thura has got it in one!
It is up to the community to break sterotypes about who we are and what we represent. A fact that sometimes appears to escape many of us is that although only fellow Viners can fully participate in the community by voting, commenting, seeding and writing on these columns.
But the rest of the Internet world is our captive audience. They should really be our target audience for what is read on our columns, collectively. Not just fellow Viners!

Wait a minute. If Newsvine WINS, we're going to get a flood of new people. A crazy influx of new Viners! Quick, everyone, go vote for someone else!
